Peek Into The Jeep Scrambler’s Cabin

Autoblog received another batch of spy photos and the Jeep Scrambler’s exterior seems to have remained unchanged from the other times we’ve seen it roaming around under camouflage. What is new are the few interior shots that the photographer managed to capture and may look a bit outdated to some.

Peeking inside, the Jeep pickup’s dash looks exactly like what you’d find in the outgoing Wrangler JK. Of course we do expect to see similarities as the Scrambler is based on Jeep’s most popular model, but not to this extent. Perhaps this is just an older test mule with things fished out of the parts bin and not indicative of what the pickup’s production model will have. The Chrysler steering wheel is a dead giveaway. What may make its way to the assembly line is the easily spotted roll bar, latch and removable roof panels.

One other small feature we spotted was the small tab under the rear view mirror, an add-on we’ve seen in other vehicles featuring a rear camera mirror. This is a function that allows drivers to flip between a regular rear view mirror and a wide-angle rear camera display built into the mirror casing.

Jeep has yet to release a production model reveal date, but the Wrangler based pickup should start hitting showrooms next April.

Looks like the original article is missing from Autoblog. Either the link is faulty or the site had to take down the article for some reason. Perhaps at the demand of Jeep? That would mean the interior picture we see could very well be the production ready interior or there's something on the laptop screen they don't want us seeing.

The link is back up, so they must have been working on some updates to the article. And seeing as how the last JK's have just rolled out from the factory, I would imagine that the Scrambler is near production ready. I think we may see the dashboard switch from its current JK styling in this prototype, closer to what's being used in the new JL.

I assumed Jeep would just reuse the JL cabin layout and dash to save some money. They know we don't really care for all the frills other cars have so long as the necessities are there. Maybe they'll add a few more buttons for towing and other pickup necessities, but the rest should look very similar to the new JL.

Don't know if anyone else noticed, but these interior shots seems to confirm that the Scrambler will be available with a removable top. If you look just above the door frame you can clearly seed the roof panel release latch.

That's a good catch, and another reason why the Scrambler will be very popular among truck enthusiasts. Hopefully due to the similarities with the Wrangler that means there will also be a hefty amount of aftermarket support for it as well.

Hard to see differences in how the cabin is spec'd on this to the JL but if Jeep wants it to succeed, the Scrambler better feel like a real pick up even right down to seating position. Just feeling like a JL with a bed won't be good enough.

The cabin looks nearly identical to the new JL's design, which isn't that surprising considering how much it has improved. I do wonder whether or not it will also be made available with the red finish offered in the JL. And to be honest I think more people will be concerned with its capabilities as a proper pickup over any design choices.

I do hope that they plan on offering it in different finishes, or at least the option to have a secondary accent color. And from most of the leaked documents pertaining to the Scramblers towing and hauling, its looks like a significant improvement over what the JL provides.

I'm not too concerned as this is one of the most highly anticipated vehicles to come out that has historically had a rich aftermarket following.
