Meh, what's really impressive and actually relevant here is this action camper for the JK8:

As nice as those action campers are, I like see what's behind me in the rear view mirror. But the adventures you can have with a camper like that. One concern is the stress it would put on the Wrangler pickup's tailgate if something like that is installed in the truck bed. Looks like a lot of weight will be sitting on it.

Nah that's way too excessive. Not too sure how many times you plan on using that, but if I'm only going to need it 4 or 5 times out of the season, it's just a waste of money, space, and essentially pointless. I don't think it would add too much stress but the extra fuel your also spending to haul that thing around... you better be using it very often or going on some long journeys.

Beyond that, when was the last time you've seen one of those around lol

Many different ways to go about camping or spending time in the out doors, if spending time away from the city and suburbs becomes a once in a while thing for you, then even getting a tent is not what you want to do. Instead renting a camper is what you want.

Camper rentals do get quite pricey, and companies tend to want to rent them for longer periods of time opposed to just a weekend thing. With prices ranging from approximately $170 a night and forwards, it just doesn't make sense to me personally. You can get a good bed-tent for $250ish and that you can keep and use whenever.

It all comes down to your needs and what your preference is. It may be a better option to go that route for some people and it may not. Depends on how many people you'll be going with, where you'll be going, how long, etc. There is no concrete answer on what's better and what's not. Just a matter of working within your means and what just makes sense.

It doesn't make sense to you but if your need stretch that far then that's one route. Never an exact science, just case by case.

If cost is an issue then yes, you keep it minimal and bring along the typical tent.
