Scrambler Spotted Towing

Two Jeep Scrambler test mules under camouflage were spotted towing a weird contraption, looks like an empty rack mounted onto a trailer.

Its not weird if you consider the fact the whole point of doing a towing capacity test is for how it handles a specific range of weight and how that weight is distributed. Easier and more precise to do that then find things people would actually use.

Smart move since there's little we can get from watching these videos aside from the fact what's being towed are some 4000LBS trailers with unknown load on them. Maybe we will see a 10,000 LBS payload?

I'd assume an actual trailer would be a better test for the Scrambler's towing capabilities because of the wind resistance compared to a panel with holes. 10,000 LBS of towing capacity isn't far fetched if you look at what other pickups are capable of towing and hauling. Maybe even more than 10,000 LBS.

you have a point and during testing since it is testing, testing for its real tolerance sets the benchmark and then to what they could scale back to

if the tow rating they report back to us is more than 10,000, how high do you think it will go?

Here's a picture of two Scramblers towing large trailers. tfltruck thinks it could be suing a Class III or Class IV hitch, followed up by a weight distributing hitch. If only it was a U-Haul trailer like the one spotted on the Wrangler, then we could make a guess about how much it can haul.

A trailer like what we're seeing in the foreground typically weighs around 3000lbs if its the short wheelbase model i'm thinking of, big enough to fit one average passenger car. This is a true teaser, just enough but not the entire story

Class IV hitches are rated up to 10,000 lbs. gross trailer weight (GTW) with a 1000 lbs maximum trailer tongue weight (TW). If that's what the Scrambler is really using, we could be seeing those numbers in the production model.

That with the sort of towing packages they offer should even kick it up a notch but even with 10,000 I think it will serve most owners well. It lets them get into the market that the F-150, Silverado, Tundra, etc are part of.

The Scrambler's rivals don't have that much of a tow advantage over 10,000 and what the Class IV hitch offer is more than enough for most people. You won't be able to tow large sailboats like a Parkens H28, but smaller ones are fine and it should easily handle most camper trailers under 24 feet.
